The UYT Seminars

How long have you been doing seminars?
Our first Understanding Your Teenager seminar was held in 1989. It was
then part of an organization called Youth
Specialties. In 1994, Wayne
Rice (a co-founder of Youth Specialties) decided to devote full
time to helping parents, so he left YS and started a new organization
called Understanding Your Teenager.
What is the purpose of the seminar?
We try to help parents better understand what's going on in the lives
of their adolescent children, and to give them practical ideas and
principles for effective parenting in today's world.
How do you decide where to schedule a seminar?
We are invited by churches and other organizations willing to host the
seminar in their local area. We will schedule a seminar anywhere we
are invited to go, depending on the availability of our seminar
leaders. If you would like to have an Understanding Your Teenager
seminar at your church, click here for booking
information.

Are you a Christian organization?
Yes we are, although we are not affiliated with any particular church
or denomination. While our seminars are based on Christian principles,
we try not to make parents who are not Christians feel uncomfortable.
In fact, many churches present UYT as a way to serve and reach out
to un-churched parents in their communities. Check
our seminar calendar and you'll see that our seminar is hosted
by a wide variety of churches and organizations.
What do others say about the seminar?
"You reminded me of how essential it is to raise up teenagers with
care and intentionality; it is altogether too easy to slack off when things
are going well. Our daughter will be a stronger person and a more committed
disciple thanks to your presence with us today."
John Guthrie
"The content of the seminar was very, very helpful and Duffy presented
it in an informative way, but also humorously. I laughed out loud so much,
my stomach hurt!"
Nancy Speer
"I am usually a little cynical about seminars, but my wife caught
me in a weak moment. I had a great time! I have four teenagers, so you
can understand the cynicism. Thanks to your (and the Spirit's prompting),
I took my oldest son fishing today. (I hate fishing; he loves it.) Thanks for all your work for the Lord and struggling parents like me."
Pat Hickey
" I have been at my wit's end with my son lately and found it comforting
to be in a room full of people experiencing the same exact thing - and to actually
find these things funny. I am trying to look at my son as an emerging adult
rather than a difficult teenager and I feel a change in me already."
Dawn Sin
How can we get your seminar at our church?
Someone in your church's leadershipusually your youth pastorneeds
to contact our office. You can direct them to our youth
worker's section for more information on booking a seminar.
